ELMWOOD PARK — The iconic Marcal sign that sat atop the Marcal Paper Mills building, visible from Route 80 since the 1940s, is coming back in 2020.
Marcal Paper Mill, a North Jersey institution for 80 years, will restart operations in January, nearly a year after the mill was decimated by a massive fire, officials told NorthJersey.com and the USA TODAY NETWORK New Jersey on Monday.
Rob Baron, president and chief executive officer of Marcal Paper, said the paper mill will be "back in business" in January 2020, one year after 500 people lost their jobs due to the fire. The decision was made after assessing the site and merging with a Pennsylvania-based paper company, he said.
Marcal / Soundview offers a complete range of Away-From-Home paper products — including bath tissue, paper towels, napkins and facial tissue — to meet customers' needs across a variety of applications and commercial environments from healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, and food service to retail and office.
The question is if Atlas Holdings owner of Soundview/Marcal will re-stablish the factory? How could this affect The Paper Marketplace ?
Meanwhile, marcal is hard at work on plans to continue bringing Marcal bath tissue, paper towel, and napkin products back to your grocer’s shelf.
